History

The National Grange was established on December 4, 1867 in Washington, D.C. Their Declaration of Purposes addressed a need for unity and civil discourse: “We shall constantly strive to secure harmony, good will, and brotherhood. We shall earnestly endeavor to suppress personal, local, sectional, and national prejudices. We desire a proper equality, and fairness; protection for the weak; restraint upon the strong; in short, justly distributed power.” These words still guide the Grange today.

Manson Grange #796 was organized on April 3, 1923 and boasted 48 members. This was an active group and early projects included preparing a float for the Wenatchee Apple Blossom Parade and a program for the Manson Apple Blossom celebration. Potlucks were held at each meeting, which were held in the Manson Library.

In 1930 a vote was taken to build a new Grange Hall. The current site of the Manson Grange Hall was purchased in 1936 through community donations and the property was paid in full in two years. In March of 1947 the basement was dug and on April 3, 1948 the new Grange Hall was dedicated.

In 1981, the Manson Grange established a Farmers Market that continues to take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the summer months.

Today, the Manson Grange remains active in our community and invites all community members to attend the monthly meetings on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm (5:00 p.m. in January & February) at the Manson Grange Hall.
